Hi,

Is there a rule to the steepness of stairs? We would like to move our bottom step back which would mean a new stairway and a shorter angle, to give us more room in the hall. I wondered if there are any rules etc regarding steepness

There is no regulation or rule as such for the steepness of stairs - much depends on circumstances - but official guidance suggests a maximum pitch of 42 deg. for a domestic staircase.
