The previous owner of our house clearly had a novel way of getting their new oversized bed up the stairs. Any ideas on how I can make this look good with out replacing it?
It’s solid as a rock so I don’t see the need to rip it out, I just want to disguise the join.

DanC123, good evening.

How about considering a bit of careful joinery? over clad the post with thin timber on all 4 faces?

Ken.

You could carefully take it apart and drill out the centre by marking the diagonals then insert some kind of dowel using a foaming glue. Obviously a few trial fittings first. Then either sand the whole thing or take your time and clad it with thin mdf cut to fit.

Clad it in something else.
Got a cat? wrap it in sizal/string.
Wife into knitting/crochet? wrap it in different colour wools.
Hang a coat on it.
:)
