but if a tanks water line measures 1meter from the base of the tank (yes its a big tank!) are we not neglecting .1bar of head that this creates or am I wrong.
Technically, it's from the surface of the water.
But there'd be no sense measuring from anywhere except the point where the water leaves the tank - it might be nearly empty when the static head mattered!
If you have 1m of water then yes you could count some, say half, in with your sums.
generally you go from the outlets, as anything above will vary as the water level falls, and anyways 0.1bar is not worth the stress on the brain to work out
I believe the answer to be the water line to the outlet, the weight of the water causes the pressure to increase the deeper you go. For every meter of water down the pressure increases 0.1bar. The water below the outlet level will not act upon the water pressure above at the outlet level. Its a few years since I did this stuff now though.
