Hello there,

wonder if you could help me please, (don't know anything about CH systems - you have heard that before!) our CH system seems to have gone up the swanny! yesterday the CH pump in the bathroom started to make groan/rattle/graunch'ing sounds - as it was cold I left the CH on most of the day. In the afternoon I heard bubbling sounds from the loft & when I got up there steam was coming out of a water container - obviously I turned everything off. This morning switched CH back on & I felt the pipes - feels like pump is running & water is moving round the system but the 3/4 - 1" pipe that go's up to that loft box was very very hot so I have turned evrything off again - the radiators everywhere else felt a bit warm but not much - even the one in bathroom that always comes on first was lukewarm. Also yesterday I noticed that the rad's were slowly getting cooler in the afternoon.

I know there's probably more details you need but thought I would just post this to start with.

Any ideas what's going on at all ?
ps - CH does provide heating for water tank (also in bathroom)
thanks very much

how old is the system?
At the moment it could be a failed thermostst/thermocouple, or a blockage.

Sound like the pump has gone the pipe going into the loft box (expansion tank) is it coming from a copper cyinder? If so it is doing it's job correctly sending hot water to cool in the tank as it is not circulating and cooling in the radiators...(pump goosed)......

MERRY XMAS.

Is there a system bypass you have shut???

Sounds like the boiler is not being told to turn off due to water temp instead expanded hot water in beng pushed into your expansion vessel.

Hot water hitting cold water = steam???

Loft cold this time of year = steam???

(Not being demeaning just with the info given these are the reasons I have come up with)

There should be a red valve just after your pump this should be the bypass, check its not closed!!

If it is open it just a couple of turns (couple meaning)
