Steel chinning bar

Hi All,

with gym closures now in effect, I wanted to create a simple chinning station in the garden. I am okay with the timber framework and wanted some advice on where I can get the steel bar from. It’s in this video. 1.5 inch thick. Ideally from a DIY shed that is open on a Sunday.

I'd doubt if the diy sheds would have such material, but maybe in the form of scaffold poles or maybe a steel washing line pole that's cemented into the garden?
I use a firm called Metal Supermarkets for lots of my stuff.

If you can't get the metal bar/tube you could perhaps use a couple of grab handles attached securely under a wooden cross-bar. You could even make DIY grab handles (e.g. from broom-handle or plastic pipe).

I’ve got this far today and just need a metal bar. Unsure on where I should source this from...

The horizontal brace is temporary.

Hi Guys,
With the lock down, I have struggled with this...
As per one of the suggestions above, can I use an appropriate piece of timber as my "bar"?

My uprights are 75mm, could I get an appropriate piece of studwork timber and recess it slightly into the posts (I have a Makita multi cutter that may help) and use this to grip?

I would really appreciate some guidance on the above please. I’ve seen that B&Q offer a click and collect service and could fetch some timber if it will work
 
No I don't think timber would work. It will have to be small enough for your hand which won't be strong enough. Hardly a plumbing question though!
 
Could a length of scaffolding do?
steam piping?.

Not if you attach hand-grips to it. Depending on the span (and the weight of the person!), something like 4" x 2" section might do. Hand grips could be made from, say, short lengths of plastic overflow pipe threaded on rope.
 
The span is 1.6m and my weight is 14 stone. Does that bode well?

@Alec_t do you have any images/sketches of what you are suggesting please? That seems plausible to me
 
In the gym using a conventional bar, 12!
But I’m hoping to improve on that

I’ve built the station now. Also, I wanted to use it with different grip positions and leg raises too
