Hey! My partner and I thought we’d take on a nice easy project, ripping out the old fireplace in our 1950s home, blocking up the hole and having a nice clean wall at the end of it.
However. I’m now faced with this lintel which sticks out, rubbishing my plan for a smooth finish. Any ideas or suggestions on how to bring this half finished project to a nice conclusion?
Can it be removed? Can I chisel off some of the front? Should I just build a fake wall over it? Or incorporate it into a new design? Will a fireplace sit flush against the wall if it has a hollow back? Kinda stumped at the moment on the best way forward.
Thanks in advance.
