Stop Tap Help!

Hi all.

My main stop tap is leaking from the spindle. I have managed to undo the gland nut and have tried repacking it by winding PTFE around the bottom of the spindle and tightening the gland nut back down but no joy, it still leaks from the spindle.

Any ideas? The tap is from the 30s, on lead piping and I have little way of turning off the water supply coming into the tap as I live in a block of flats!

Undo the gland nut and put a few more turns of ptfe in there, then re-tighten.

Thanks I'll give that a go. Is there anything else I can do if that doesn't work? Is there a specific rubber seal that should go under the gland nut or is PTFE all that's needed?
