remove and renew, only way to be sure.`O` ring damaged.
Thanks Chaps - thought so. Agree about compression joints but that was what was used by builders so stuck with it! At least if its copper to copper I can replace with a compression. BUT not sure yet if it is the straight connector (push fit copper to copper) or the elbow which is plastic to copper and only about 5mm away! It it was the elbow I guess I cannot use a compression - correct?

you can use compression on plastic, no problem. just make sure you use an instert!
