I gave up on 21 April 1994.

I used to smoke far too many a day - 2 sometimes more packs a day.

I used to chain smoke when driving. Did some long-haul delivery driving back in the nineties.

I once took a van on an overnighter to Scotland & back & took 200 with me. By the time I hit the M6 on the return journey, I was opening the last pack.

Bad news!

However, I am smoke-free more than 13 years later. If I can do it, anyone can!

The only problem has been keeping my weight down. Still the wrong side of 19 stone, despite losing a few....

I gave up smoking back in 1967.

I found the first 3 days were the worst. Once I got over that I knew I could manage a week. With a week under my belt, I could stretch it to a fortnight, then a month and so on.

I had to prepare myself before I went to the pub as all my mates would fall over themselves offering me a fag. But I resisted.

Now I can't stand stand being near a person when they're smoking.
It's all been worth it though.

My secret to holding out when I was sorely tempted to start again was this.
I would make a pact with myself that if I still really wanted a fag the next day then I would have one. And I meant it. But of course next day the craving had passed.

Wish I could pack in. I've tried all methods known to man with no success. Holiday duty frees ran out yesterday. Rather than run out and start paying nearly six quid a packet again, I've gone on the "rollies". Cheaper and so far not smoking so many cos basically I can't roll a fag to save my life. I must take inspiration from the success stories in this post and kick the dreaded weed once and for all.

You need a good reason & health / money never seem to be good enough.
I tried so many times, Ive lost count.
I eventually stopped, when holding my daughter one night, she said, YOU STINK.
It stopped me I was on 40+, breaking the filters off, the only way I could cut down was by staying in bed. I was also smoking a pipe.

ITS ALL ABOUT HAVING A REASON, Bit like most things I suppose.
Any way stick with it. (I mean the stopping not the smoking).

Packed in smoking 7 yrs ago as at 37 I had promblems keeping it up longer than 5 minutes. I've not looked back since the only problem now is is that I cant get enough.
Boys if you enjoy sex trust me give up and it stays up longer.

HAVE FUN.

How about a small photo to carry around in your wallet clogging of the arteries to remind & shock you, might work for you(?)

Never started I thought it would be better to save up and buy a house

even that wont work with me.. even seeing a bloke with emphsyma and having to use oxygen at home, crawling to his wheelchair and going outside and taking 3 drags of a fag before his wife got back home didnt
Im using snippetts from the 'allan Carr how to stop smoking book' I read it back in 1990 and stopped for 3 years. But had six weeks off work after fallin off me steps and in a moment of boredom thought oh 1 wont hurt  That was it, before I knew it I was back on a pack a day  Beeen trying ever since duhhh.. But this time I was so fed up of hacking up gold watches, after a heavy cold I tried again, I got to my usual 2 weeks by thinking when I saw others smoking 'thank god I dont need to do that anymore' or if I was offered 1 I say 'no ta dont need em anymore ' and trying not to dwell on it.. be happy.. I soon start to find I'm so much healthier just 2 weeks into it.. This is when the struggle gets me. I think well I feell great.. ahhh fk it just 1 wont hurt. This time though I got some patches, never used em before, and well I have to say they are working with me.. The only problem now is erm how the fk do I get off the patches  ahh well at least I havent had a fag now for 26 days :)
Sorry for going on but erm it's good to get it off me chest
