Hi. I'm a novice at this but was hoping for some advice so we can make sense of the situation before we decide how to go further...

There are photos here: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjJWUdgT

We have a 80s fireplace, with the chimney built on the side of the house - I've pulled out most of the cement (with the rest to go soon) to get to the original fireplace and am trying to work out how best to have a multi-fuel stove fitted.

As the photos show, there's an existing clay liner that I'd love to reuse if possible. I know that installers prefer to install a fresh liner to get a good fit, but if there were any way to attach the stove to the existing liner, I could burn coal without having to worry too much and should hopefully save money on the installation.

I've looked at clay adapters, but these seem to fit around a flue that either sticks out (e.g. http://www.fluesystems.com/shop/Clay_Liner_Adaptor_0505.html) or assumes you have a pretty small flat surface (https://tinyurl.com/odfehpc). If you look at the photos, I've got this rectangular lintel/funnel thing that reduces up and meets the 7" clay flue.

Can anyone help advise how (if?) we could attach a stove to the liner we have in the photos?

Very much obliged!

First off, that liner is going to need some serious sweeping before you do anything else. Your HETAS installer will then be able to do a smoke test to check its integrity, assuming it passes that test there's no reason why it shouldn't be used. There are various ways of adapting from vitreous to clay, your installer will probably have a preferred method so leave it to them to decide
