Hi all

Came to put the heating on this morning and all was well, radiators got hot. I then heard a strange vibration sound and it seems the boiler is cutting out. Looking at the flue outside its going on and off every few seconds. It doesnt happen when i use hot water. Any ideas ? It’s a heatmax combi 28he. Thanks

Sounds like the typical gas valve trumpeting that the Ideal's suffer from. With them it tends to be the gas valve, not so much the Potterton's though.

Get someone in, it may just need a service and a good clean. The alternatives could be a gas supply problem or a gas valve issue but the gas bod should be able to fault find what's going on.

Thanks. It’s odd as if I turn up the flow temperature to full it stops the behaviour for a short while then it starts again

Yep, possibly because there will be an increase in demand @ the gas valve, which may alters things till it settles back down.

But hot water is fine, it doesn’t seem to happen if I run water. Is that normal?

It will be when the boiler is in minimum rate. A proper service should sort that out
