I'm after a bit of advice...
My house (built in 1968) has 4" joists in the loft and I am looking to board the loft to use it as storage space, not as living space.
When the central heating was installed, the guy mentioned the size of the joists and that we shouldn't really be walking on them, let alone putting lots of stuff up there! So I am looking to strengthen them.
My first thought was to get some lengths of 8" joist (possibly 10' long) and screw them to the side of the existing joist, which are 25' long. After reading some of this forum I am now not so sure...
What is the best way to strengthen the floor, or even is it necessary for storage use?
Many thanks for any advice.
Alex.
