Anybody out there vouch for the claims of kinetic torches - no batteries and up to 10 hours bright light from a vigourous shake!?

Sounds to good to be true - rather like these rechargeables which fade rapidly in my experience.

.can`t afford the batteries

The "charging action" of those has to be the biggest gift to the building industries ****takers takers ever invented.
