I've got some gorgeous old original Victorian pine doors in a flat and would love to get back to the wood. I've tried a heatgun and after half a day, didn't even get as far as getting th epaint off half a side. There are so many nooks and crannies!

Is there a better way to do this? I've looked at Nitromors chemical stripper, but it's so toxic I'm owrried about teh fumes etc.

If you mean the whole door you can get them dipped. If you just mean the surrounds then nitromorse is your best bet.

Are you sure your using the heat gun correctly? What type is it?

I've recently been doing the same and it takes about 1-2 hours to strip a door and they are the original pine doors (about 120 years old)

Heat gun should be fine as long as you use the right tools, IE. a shave hook and short narrow scraper.

Hi folks - thanks for all the ideas :) I've managed to do the doors pretty easily and am tepted to just paint the architraves gloss white. WHat are your views on thi - do you think I need to do the architraves too to keep them in keeping?

I know there's no right or wrong asnwer on this, just curious to hear your opinions :)

THanks,
Sarah
