Hi,

Was wondering if anybody had any tips on how to open/close the lockshield valve on a radiator?

I have one valve that did not budge when I attempted to move it with a set of pliers. Is more force required (adjustable spanner?). I was hesitant at putting too much force on the valve in case I damaged it.

Would it be an idea to slightly loosen the gland nut?

Thanks in advance.

Don't loosen the gland nut! Are you repacking the valve? lol

It should turn easily unless it's seized.

Well, you could put a bit of WD40 on it and leave that to soak into the body of the valve. That sometimes allows it to free up due to the penerating power of the oil. Also, give it a few sharp taps on the stem of the valve sometimes frees it up for movement.

If that doesn't work, you might be looking at a drain down and replacement.
