Just about to build a stud wall for a shower enclosure and am wondering whether to use 3"x2" at 400mm centres and plasterboard the non wet side and hardybacker the 'shower side' (to be tiled), or use 2.5x1.5 for the stud work and marine ply the shower side before hardy backer. Kind of less stud work, more sheet skin

I'm after a thin a wall as possible whilst keeping it stong to prevent flex.

So is 3x2 stronger than 2.5x1.5 with a 1/2" marine ply 'skin' ?

Thoughts??

Are you considering fitting a shower mixer valve within the depth of this stud wall?

I see where you're coming from, but probably in the adjacent brick wall. Not too worried about the depth for that if we did though...plenty of space as either way it's going to be a at least 4" thick...

really just after the strongest about 4" overall thickness stud wall...
