Hi

I have just been up into the loft to see if I can remove a stud wall. The connection between the roof trusses (which span from ext. wall to ext. wall) are just nails through the top of the stud wall. Is there any reason I can't remove this wall. Would it be a better connection if it was structural?

Why is there a stud wall in the loft?

Is it central, i.e. follows the ridge down the spine of the roof and is it sheathed in ply?

hi noseall

its not in the loft its under the loft, about a metre off centre. what would be the tell tale signs if it was structural as it just looks like every other stud wall at the mo.
cheers

You fink that they are trusses?

Anyway, unlikely to be a structural stud - especially if a modernish house of the same box design as every other modern house - ie nothing off grand designs, and the wall is original

no, i know they are fink trusses

thanks for the help it was built in 1980 definately pre-made trusses though.

what are the signs of a structural stud wall?

Fink trusses rarely need no support from below, that is there whole point.

So, as Woodstock says, the wall is likely to be cosmetic only.

noseall sorry to be picky but where you say "rarely need no support" does that mean it does need a support?
Thanks for all the help I feel a bit better now.
