Stupid defrosting error!

Whilst waiting for the freezer compartment to defrost I lost patience and hacked at the ice with a chisel and of course punctured the material, letting some of the gas out (sorry world ) Is the fridge still safe to use and will the rest of it work ok or do I need to catch the Winter sales?

the freezer compartment of a fridge usually has a part that goes into the fridge. its not some gas you let out, it will be all of it.
