Hi, I am planning to get a relatively large garden paved with flags 60m2. I am getting 5 tonne of type 1 granular base from a left over job of someone. My question is, if this is laid and compacted with a compactor, can it sit there for a few months before I can afford to get someone out to lay the flags (I wouldn't be doing this bit). The only reason I ask is because this would save me an awful lot of money but don't want to compromise the integrity of the flags. Just worried that rain etc might cause movement with the sub-base. Thanks.

Its no problem at all. You should compact it as soon after laying as possible but once compacted it can sit there for as long as you like with no issue.

5t over 60sq.m is very little.

Cheers. It's this grass area

You ideally want 75-100mm of sub base so dig out to the right depth and put down your 5t and compact it. You can then at a later date add the final sub base needed to take it up to 100mm at the time you pave it
