Had a joiner in today to fit a subfloor before laying LVT and first thing I pointed out today was the difference in floor height between where the extension meets the original house

Just had a look at what’s been done and have no idea how this floor is going to end up level. He mentioned using Ardex feather finish but it looks at least 9mm difference in height (see pic) when i place a straight edge down

Any help/feedback appreciated

Probably cheaper to use self levelling compound first, if it's quite out. How big is the area you are covering?

I've used this before on plywood for 10mm+

Thanks for your reply. That sounds like a good suggestion. The area being covered is 10m2

Talked through the option of the self levelling compound and was told it probably wont solve the issue and we’d just have to live with a slight slope.

The LVT is down and can feel a ridge where the two areas meet and it’s definitely not what I would call a slight slope (see pic - can fit 6 two pence pieces underneath a 2m straight edge - a 12mm gap. Been reading up and seems reasonable to use SR2 tolerance of 5mm over 2m.

Really not happy with this (the other parts of the room are fine) - not sure whether to ask him to stop and get somebody else in or insist that self levelling compound is used for that area and rip up the lvt covering there and start again.

If you are not happy then i would suggest you tell him as you are the one that has to live with it.

If he refuses to rectify it then you will have to look for someone more competent.

Thanks for your reply. Had a word this morning and he understood our concerns.

He decided after looking at it in more depth that self-levelling floor compound was the way forward. The extension area has had the LVT lifted and the compound added (see pic 2 hours after he finished it). Fingers crossed on Monday, will have a much flatter surface!

What the hell has he used ? Way too much water in that.
Also has he fixed the plywood down with staples ?
