We all know how women keep on reminding us to leave the seat down on the loo.
I have a theory that soft closing seat mechanisms were designed as a perpetual reminder for men to do just this.
My reasoning is that, having just been caught short, as it were, and moving with a certain degree of speed up to the water closet, it was a matter of some angst to have to wait for the seat (which I had left up after the last visit) to lower itself at its own leisure, because one is not meant to push it down to its horizontal position without fear of damaging the mechanism.
Thus, having been beaten with the stick, I am reminded of the carrot in leaving it in a suitable position ready for action, which coincides with women's desire to have the seat left down at all times when vacating the premises. Cunning, huh!
Why post it on here, rather than the general discussion forum? Well, it is a plumbing issue, in more sense than one
