I have wood block floors in two rooms, both of which had sunk in the middle, but not where meet the walls at the edges. The house was built in the 1920s and I guess the flooring is original.
The sub-floor appears to be ashes, and the blocks are set in bitumen. What would be the best way of lifting, or relaying, the floors to make them level, please ?
If I were to mix the ashes with cement and sand, or replace it with foamed concrete, and cover it with a polythene DPM, what would be the best adhesive for the wood blocks ?
Also, is it advisable to heat the wood blocks to assist removal of the original bitumen adhesive ?
Many thanks.
