Super Quilt loft insulation

I am in the process of installing Super Quilt loft insulation (http://www.ybsinsulation.com/superquilt14.htm) which lines the roof and is attached to the rafters, secured with batons (as per manufacturer's instructions). Do I need to remove the old fibre glass insulation from between the joists below in order for the new insulation to work properly or can I just leave the old stuff in place?[/url]

leave the old stuff unless it is full of vermin.

The more insulation you have, the better.

p.s. I find it difficult to grasp how it can be
"25mm thickness - approximately equivalent to 200mm mineral wool/fibre"

How much does it cost?

Just come across this question.

I have recently moved in to my present address & I also want to put this stuff across my rafters, but whoever had the roof retiled never had any roofing felt put on underneath, so I am looking at bare tiles.

Will it make any difference to the insulation other then the back of it getting dirty? Or will I be wasting my time & money on it?

I understand from a couple of roofers that felt cant be put on now without the whole roof being taken off to do it.

You can put anything under the rafters to keep the roof clean without going to all this expense. Brown building paper or the foil backed bubblewrap would be more suitable.

The superquilt will need an airspace and layer of plasterboard for it to match 200mm quilt. Much cheaper to use normal loft insulation between the joists.

Where can I buy super quilt? There are loads of web sites telling me all about it but not how much it costs or where I can obtain it.

Just the small disadvantage that there are still many people who don't believe it works nearly as well as the makers claim.

Can see why you would have an interest in promoting it, though.
