I've got main and equipotential bonding, all more-or-less in accordance with the 16th (close enough so that I'm not worried about anything ;) ).

I've got what looks like a TN-S system, and I note that the earth connection that goes from my earth block to the sheath of the incoming cable constists of 2 uninsulated, unprotected multistranded conductors. It looks like each conductor has an overall area of between 2.5 and 3 sq mm, and it just runs "in mid-air" (i.e. not clipped to any surface) for about 100-120mm.

Firstly - is this some of MB's favourite cable? (it's a 1950s house)

Secondly, should I get the supplier to replace it? I'm not sure that its lack of physical protection is a Good Thing, nor its small size in comparison to the rest of the earthing in my installation.

Thirdly, if #2 is yes, is there anything (supply regulations?) which make them obliged to replace it at their expense?

If I were you, I would get it checked, it sounds like as if the whole service cable is in need of full replacement, quote the "Electrical safety, Quality and Continiuty regulations 2002" in your request to the Board.
