Hi,

I've previously mentioned that I have substandard floor in my loft (3x2 joists) and that the dormer window needs additional support in the same room (covered in another post). Now, the steel beam that will be installed (from wall to wall) to support the dormer window will sit across and just above all of the existing floor joists. I have had a thought though, isn't this an ideal opportunity to re-enforce the floor joists too ?. ie, can they be tied up to the beam somehow to approximately halve their span ? I'd love to kill two birds with one stone here.

Hope this is clear, thanks.

its not clear to me.do you have photos?
you could put all the post here together?

As long as the beam is calculated to take the weight of the floor as well as the dormer you could.
