I have some approved plans to build a conservatory and open up our kitchen to make it much bigger.
Part of the plan involves removing an unsued fireplace.
I've been doing lots of renovation upstairs and noticed that the joists appear to reply on the fireplace for support and I'd like to know how best to support them once the fireplace is removed.
In the kitchen below:
This joist does not seem to be set in the double party wall to the right very well:
Same here too:
By what I can see these two joists appear the worst, others looks as though they go right into the wall.
The fireplace is not tied into the party wall by what I can see.
Building control is to be involved in the whole job, but I do all my own work and learn as I go.
So I'm looking for advice on the joists and if they do need support how best to do this.
Also how best to remove the fireplace whilst adding support to the joists as the work is done.
The flue is also to be removed and I guess that will need support somewhere.
And the old coal shed is going too! (behind/left of fridge)
