Hi all, about 6 months ago our Potterton Suprima 50 Boiler failed to ignite and went into lockout status. I performed a few checks which pointed me to the gas valve itself. I left it over night and 'tapped' the gas valve - et voila it burst back into life.

Last week the same thing happened again but now it will not ignite whatsoever. I did a few checks on the valve and discovered that coil 1 resistance is 1.3k Ohms however coil 2 is getting no reading. I assume that therefore it is open and possibly the cause of the problem. On ignition sequence I am measuring over 300 DC going into the valve however I did also replace the PCB just in case it was not energising the valve. The result is the same. Oh, I am seeing a spark from the electrode and also replaced the red lead.

I would appreciate it if someone could check my diagnosis and give me an idea of what sort of labour charges I should be paying to have someone fit the valve.

Thank you!

Just noticed that there is an earth type connector on the gas valve (just underneath the electrical connector). Should this be earthed to the case? I cannot see any cables that were in place previously.

No there are no cables fitted to the spade, gas valve is a common failure.
