I have lived in my rented flat for 2 yrs now. I have had endless probs with the CH not running efficiently.
I have a potterton Suprima boiler, which is not working v well. Basically when you turn it on it fires up, (The pilot, and the spark) and it gets the flat hot for, maybe half an hour, then it cuts out, I am left with the red LED flashing, I reset it, and the same thing happens again....and again.

I have wondered about bleeding the rads, but has it actually got anything to do with them? Will it make the boiler work more efficiently? Will it get my water hot?

This happens whether I have it on constant, or on timer.
I have had the landlord call the plumber out on numerous occasions. He thinks there is an electrical wiring fault. The electrician told me it was a plumbing error.
The actual tank and header boiler are up in the loft. They have been looked at, and the setting is now apparently on 2 The plumber reckons the pump is a bit crap, but its doing its job. It makes a bit of a noise but I am used to the noise, doesnt bothre me.

All I know is that I am freezing, and fed up with being constantly fobbed off.

If the rads are cool at the top they need bleeding. It isn't a big deal so I suggest you go round trying them! But it wouldn't be connected with your boiler cutting out. Some Suprimas are inclined to overheat but mostly the big ones; if you're in a flat it probably isn't one of those. The size is on a label under the door on the right.

If the pump isn't working very well the boiler would be unable to get its heat out so it would reach thermostat temp and turn off, it shouldn't "lock out" which is what you're getting.

If it isn't actually overheating then it's overwhelmingly likely to be the standard Suprima fault - it needs a new Printed Circuit Board. Sometimes they can be resurrected by resoldering, but often not. Occasionally the problem is elsewhere, but it would need an engineer there to see it failing to find for example an intermittent High limit stat.
PCB RRP is about £230 inc vat. Trade price 30% or so off that. But there are lots of Suprima boards about because they've brought out a new one. The "old" ones , like yours, which would probably last several years, can be had for about £50, and a new-version one for about £100. I can get you either.
