Was a new build. Cooker hood (150mm) installed with 100mm flexi ducting loosely coupled with a zip tie, filled with holes along the flexi; then stretched over a 125/130mm ish rigid pipe to outside. This was giving us multiple problems - oil and condensation running back down the hood and dripping into the pans; little extraction taking place; cooking fumes reaching the bathrooms and bedrooms on that side of the house (now I know, because of the leaky approach, it is wafting around the ceiling void space).

I've taken it all apart ready to redo. Intend to replace with rigid and increase size to 150mm, as per the extractor. The issue I have is the hole and the cooker hood hole are out of alignment, but not enough that I could use elbows to get it into the correct place. I see a few options and looking for advice on the best one:

1) Expand the current hole to 150mm. Run rigid pipe straight up from the cooker hood. Use a rigid pipe from outside and put a 90 elbow on the end. Connect the elbow to the cooker hood pipe with a small bit of flexi. I can't find any decent products to join the flexi to rigid but I presume there are some.

2) Expand the current hole in the same way as above, but run the 150mm pipe straight down and join at the base of that pipe between that and the cooker hood.

3) As above, but use some form of connector to join the two rigidly? Not sure if this is possible as I can't find anything. I have found adjustable elbows but only in aluminium.

4) Drill a new hole, at the X location, of 150mm. Connect with rigid ducting from start to finish as it would be perfectly aligned. Close up the old hole.

I'm very keen to stick to the 150mm recommended for the hood and to use rigid as much as possible. Any advice appreciated!

How long is the existing vent pipe in the ceiling?

What type of vent “cover” do you have on the outside?

What you describe sounds odd to say the least

Is location X an external wall. If so then that would likely be your best option, but you might need to move the cable or cables supplying the socket.
