Can you swap an old syphon and handle for a push button flush valve like this? Would need a close couple kit too. Thanks

Yes - can also use a drop valve on a low level cistern if needed.

As long as the valve is the correct diameter or has the adapter and the button fits the hols in the cistern.

The hole for the handle isn't quiet big enough to let the push button sit flush. If they did I'd convert most I go to to a push button from a syphon and handle.

I presume the cistern is ceramic?

For some reason the push buttons for these drop valves all do that, very slightly wider at the end flanged part of the button. See that when cutting a hole in a unit for the button, the standard hole cutters are a perfect size for most of the button body but it gets really tight the final few mm as it's pushed in.
