Switching ELV LEDs With 2 Gang Alongside 240v Lights?

Hi I'm building a wardrobe for a customer and replaced her room light switch with a 2-Gang one with the hope of installing a wardrobe light powered by the lighting circuit.

Now she has gone and bought ELV LED lights which are the same style you would find in kitchen cabinets.

The lights come on a plug and she wants them switched.

Can I cut the cable that comes with the LED set, wire the live/neutral (there is no earth) into a junction box, and run a T&E switch line to the 2 Gang switch?

So one of the gangs will switch the 240v room light, the other gang will switch the ELV LED light set powered by a plug on a separate circuit.

Would this be acceptable and pass an HMO inspection?

Thanks.

I would wire up a new socket that is operated by the switch. Plug the LED transformer into that. Then you aren’t mixing ELV and mains on the same switch!

Sounds good but are you suggesting I use the light switch to control the socket on/off?

I mean I could add a 5 amp fuse before the socket and intercept to power cable before the socket with a junction box, then run a switch line to the light switch. Is it OK if the switch line is 1.5mm? I mean theoretically it's "OK" as the cable won't be pulling more than 5 amps but I foresee confusion for future electricians looking at the setup.

Yes. Change the switch to a 2-gang. But you’ll need a neutral in the switch. Is there a neutral?

Pointless if you have permanent L&N at the switch.
Otherwise you may have to add an FCU which can also be the on/off for the socket.

The socket will be tapped off an existing socket. So because the existing socket might be a spur I will have to add an FCU for the additional socket (for the LEDs)

So I was going to add the switch line from in between the FCU and new single socket by intercepting the 2.5mm cable with a junction box...

...then wire a switch line from that junction box into the existing 2 gang light switch.

Yes there are neutrals as it will be T&E from existing socket. No power will be taken from lighting circuit.
