Switching to LED lights

I’ve just bought a new house and every light is a CFL. I’m looking to work my way through and replace everything with LEDs, but I’m having some problems with the first one and I’m not sure where to start.

I picked up a Lightwave starter kit with a single dimmer switch and changed the switch in my bedroom. I’ve put in an 8W B22 Philips LED with dimming; the problem I have is that the light flickers a low light constantly. I have read that this could be to do with a transformer? Would I need to fit a LED driver?

Not quite sure where to start here, any help would be appreciated.

The dimmer switch is likely to be your issue. It passes some current all the time in order to operate. Crap design really, but you may be able to eliminate the flickering with a 22nF X2 capacitor placed across the lamp.

Or a more economical way, although intended to suppress arcing when connected across switch contacts it also works as a snubber when connected across the lamp terminals. ( Switched Live and Neutral )
