System Boiler Query

Hello,

We have just had a new system boiler fitted replacing a gloworm/boilermate setup. The new system boiler has CH and HW controls. I was surprised about this as our gloworm only had one output. The CH out is connected to upstairs then two valves are fitted to divert to tank or rads. Should the installer have connected the HW to the tank and the CH to the rads separately in this case? As it stands on the boiler, HW is just set to OFF.

The installer could have connected the new boiler as you suggest but likely that would have caused some upheaval running new copper pipework to the HW cylinder and hence cost more. The way it has been done is typical for a lower cost less upheaval install. However splitting HW and CH can have efficiency gains due to being able to run the CH flow temp lower than the HW flow temp, how much is debatable.

Thankyou. I was worried we may have less capacity if we were running both HW and CH at the same time in this format.

Assuming your hot water tank has decent insulation its best to heat the water in the night before you might need to put the heating on.

Ours is set for 4am and runs for 30 mins which is enough to have a full tank of hot water

So assuming you have a 2 channel controller just set the timings accordingly
