Hi All, I've been scouring the net and there's quite a bit of information (sometimes conflicting) on what's the best way to tackle this.

I've become fairly handy with diy over the years and I'm planning to update my small bathroom (2.6mx1.6m) to have a small low profile shower tray(700cmx700cm, instead of a bathtub.

The current bathroom is on the first floor and has a T&G wooden floorboard subfloor which feels quite solid, there doesn't seem to be movement when jumping up and down on it.

My questions/ options are:
- Do I need to rip out all of the floorboards and replace with 24mm ply?
- Can I simply lift up the floorboards where the shower tray will be installed and fit some noggins for additional support, then refit the floorboards?
- Can I remove the section of the floor where the shower will go and fit that with 24mm ply?

I'd then be looking to overboard with NoMorePly 6mm, can the shower tray go on top of the no more ply? Is there any harm to doing this?

Cheers,
Sav

if it's in good condition then no need

yes, always best practice
Can I remove the section of the floor where the shower will go and fit that with 24mm ply
if you wanted to but refer to the answers above.

The final suggestion would be - are the floorboards nice and flat and well fitting? If so then after all the support etc has been added then you may need a 3mm hardwood ply top just to make it a nice clean and flat surface to lay the tray onto. If you can, also tank the wet space.

Also how is the trap/waste being run?

As above re floor.
One thing I would say is try for a bit bigger tray than 700 square maybe a oblong tray?
You will feel like your in trap one at dog track in a 700 square

Thanks both, @Madrab the floorboards are in great condition and are also flat. I was planning on over boarding with NoMorePly, will the 3mm ply go on top of this for the shower tray? I will definitely be tanking the wet space also. The waste will be going underneath the floorboards and will be clear of any joists.

@Exedon That's an interesting idea, I may just get a shower tray to replace the space the bath currently takes up!

Thanks for the insight, it's extremely appreciated and lucky to have this answered so quickly from yourselves very knowledgeable.
