I am going to be putting a solid wooden floor down over battens and when I was browsing some videos I came across this one from Junckers -
It is quite old but it looks like it is a manufacturers video, but I was surprised to see the finished floor put straight over battens, and even more surprised to see that the sections are meeting in between battens. I always had the impression that flooring like this needed to go down over ply/osb. I know that the old original T&G boards went straight down on battens/joists, but they were usually quite thick and the joins are usually over a batten/joist. See grabs below from the video. Anyone seen it done like this below?
I am partly asking out of curiosity and partly because I have a section of floor to fit where I have limited depth to play with. I wouldn't have considered putting them straight on battens but if its a valid method...
