Tainted Drinking Water

Help please, we have just had a new kitchen fitted and had the plumber refit the water supply using new fittings, we now have tainted drinking water ie. smell and taste, sort of metallic and quite strong, it certainly hasn't cleared after a couple of days. Before he comes back to look at it has anyone got any ideas please

Does the taint occur only with water that has been standing in the new pipes for some time, or does it occur even in water that has just come from the main (i.e. standing water having been drawn off first before sample taken)?

all I can say is that the water in my upstairs tap does not have this problem

Can you see if it has been done in copper pipes with soldered joints (or are there large brass screw-on joints that are done up with a spanner?)

there are copper pipe extensions that I can see, I also believe there may have been a flexi pipe used behind the back of the now fitted under sink cupboard, what I can see are plastic joins ,,, but I see he fitted a silver looking metal joint just sited below the bottom of the cold water tap tap. this is the water inlet connection for dishwasher

I would have thought it is likely to be the flux used for soldering copper pipe. It will wash away in the flowing water. I suppose you could leave the tap dripping very slowly, and avoid drinking it until you are happy that the water is clean. If the water from the hot tap is OK (it will wash clean quicker) you can use that in the kettle for making tea and coffee.

The other possibility is white jointing paste, on compression fittings, but this has a scent rather than a taste, and is not much used these days.

If you ring the plumber he will probaby tell you what it is and suggest you run the water for a few second before use until it clears. In the old days of lead pipes everyone used to do that.

the plumber came and we discovered the fault lies within the tap nozzle itself. He took the nozzle off and being a mixer the fault appears to be within the split part of the cold side. We discovered that the taint was not apparant coming straight through the housing.
any ideas how to remedy this other than going back to kitchen co. The mixer taps have no makers name, only a model no.

Unfortunately this hasnt worked, will have to take the nozzle back to kitchen company
