Tanking hardibacker board before tiling -

Is this necessary or is it overkill?

Travertine tiles going up on the walls of a shower cubicle.

I was planning on using BAL WP1 if needed - is there anything better?

Thanks for reading, Stuart.

Hello Stuart,
Whenever you are doing a bathroom renovation or any renovation where water or moisture is present then using a tanking system is by no means overkill.
This will obviously spark controversy but bear in mind that you are going to be installing expensive tiles and want the walls to remain waterproof.
I've used Schlüter Kerdi and RedGard projects on nearly all of my projects and have never had any problems.
The extra expense means peace of mind.

Thanks JRH14 I will look at those products, I am sure it won't do any harm. I just didn't want to waste money. Like you said, it will give me piece of mind.
