Tapping a lighting circuit for a spur?

E

exposed

Hi All,

Im looking to install a Japanese toilet seat in the bathroom, however the only power available is a light in a wardrobe which is next to the bathroom (and on the right wall). is it possible to tap this circuit and run down to a switched spur?

The power from the toilet, would go through the wall and the connection on the opposite side.

Cheers

An electric Japanese toilet seat.

Whatever next?

Your post title says socket, but later you say switched (fused?) spur.

Can you get a PERMANENT supply from the wardrobe light?

Is there an earth connection at the wardrobe light?

What does toilet seat actually do?

The seat does have a plug, but can be hard wired, and I imagine a spur would be a better choice. The light in the wardrobe was part of the house build so im guessing it runs off the main lighting circuit, but ill check the ceiling rose tomorrow.

Im not sure where to start with what it is/does, if you havent seen or used one.

Seat is heated and lit
it essentially washes and dies ur ass :)

Good God.

It’d be easier to ask what a Jap toilet doesn’t do!

They are pretty sweet, some have deodorizers and will even play music if the previous night has entailed too much beer/curry

1550 W is typically too much to add to a regular lighting circuit.

It may be that your wardrobe light is fed from the sockets circuit somehow, so more investigation needed.

Are you sure you want this thing?

1500watts ish is about 3 amps. That’s about half the capacity of the usual domestic lighting circuit.
I would not put a load that high on a lighting circuit. Better to spur off a ring final/socket circuit.

I note that the loo comes with its own RCD, and comes with a plug. There’s a hint as to the power source for you, but note that you aren’t allowed a socket in a bathroom.
