Help!, my Tefal "smartclean" deep fat fryer has broken. I've looked inside and it looks pretty simple. I have checked most of the bits (switches, element, etc) for continuity and all are OK apart from one thing that looks like an overheat cutout. It appears to be a small plunger on a spring, aimed at the base of the cooker, If I press the plunger against the spring pressure, it makes, otherwise in is an open circuit. I noticed what looked like solder beads around the base of it and wondered if this was anything to do with it. Anyway, I'm now at a loss and the kids are whining about not having any chips, so I need to fix it. Any ideas?

it does sound like a saftey cut out, best option new deep fat fryer (or oven chips)

I agree.

I assume it's over a year old because you can't get it replaced under warranty, and it's a cheap enough item to replace anyway.

Mine came from asda about 4 months ago, £24.99 if i remember correctly.

Thanks for the response(s), looks like a new unit then! It's a shame that they incorporate a non serviceable thermal cutout as opposed to something that you can simply reset or replace with ease. I guess they don't want things fixed anymore!

not necesarily true, it may be a single use cut out, which will only operate if something severe is going to happen, but to change this and cause of severe problem may cost more than fryer
