never done anything with phones before so pls keep me on straight and narrow :D

house has main cable from BT telegraph pole coming down outside front door. Comes through and into the BT box. This is only phone point in house. Need to put another "socket" in living room. Do i just simply feed off this BT box like you would do off back of normal socket and run to new?? This also needs to run outside so is there special cable that needs using?

Any advice/tips, tricks would be great :D

If the one jack already present is the modern NTE5 with a removable lower plate, then you wire to the terminals on the back of that plate. They're marked with the 2/3/4/5 pin numbers which match up with those on the secondary extension jacks you buy.

The telephone cable you'll find in most DIY-type stores is CW1308, which is the white-sheathed type, which is really intended for indoor use only. If used outside, it will suffer the effects of sunlight UV after a few years.

Exterior-grade cable generally comes with a UV-resistant black sheath. You need to ask for something like CW1308B or CW1128.
