telephone extension

We have just put a telephone extension upstairs.

We have fitted extension socket and secured the 4 wires as directions

Upon trying the new lead with phone were able to phone out but had no ring tone when phoning in from mobile. Albeit that when we lifted the received we appeared to be connected.

Wires rechecked ok and there appears no damage to cable.

any ideas please

Double check terminal 3.

Where have you taken the extension from? You ned to ensure terminal 3 is connectd right the way back to the master socket.

Hi lectrician we are using wicks tel. ext. kit and put break in adaptor to mains socket downstairs. This socket is already wired and sealed. Then wired socket upstairs and there are 4 connections numbers 2,3,4 & 5 to which white, blue, green and red corresponded. quite simple I thought.

more details on this "break in adaptor" please (never heard of one)
but as lectrican says its number 3 that is the problem, because if number 3 terminal has no wire the phone plugged in will not ring, unless of course that is, in moving it you switched the ringer off on the phone, and have you tried this phone in another socket?

what has a brodband filter got to do with no ring? The phone will ring with or without a BB filter providing terminal 3 is connected at both ends, one should be the master socket

Hi everyone, thanks for ideas. First of all we have broadband but disconnected everything connected with it just to make sure no problem there. Also know telephone rings when plugged into main socket.

Re break in adaptor, this is connected to one end of the telephone extension which goes into main socket downstairs and this provides 2 outlets one for the main phone and the other has the cable extension for upstairs. Thanks Al

ring is to do with terminal 3. A BB filter, filters 2 & 5 not 3
