When i dug the footings for my extension and new water main the existing paved drive got churned up a bit. I have used a bit of oversite concrete to patch it for the time being but know that when the winter comes it will fail and i will be dragging soil down the road. I also have 1/2 a wagon load of muck from the excavations sat in the front garden to get rid of and an overgrown un maintainable garden with random builders materials dashed around the place for good measure.
I have a bit of holiday to take from work and given that i wont be going anywhere am considering getting the man and excavator back for a day along with 2 muck away wagons to reduce the front by 300mm after which i can then set out the new driveway and lay 150mm-200mm of Type 1 or 2. This will then give me a nice lay down area for materials whilst retaining an area to park. I assume the final finish will not go down for 12-16 months.
1) How low should i leave the base (just the depth of the finish left or allow another 50mm of sub base to be laid when i lay the finish)
2) Does T1 lift if unfinished / will i drag it down the road leaving tyre marks all winter when it gets wet
This is a job that has to be done at some point and i thought it would improve the appearance and give me more storage for the bigger extension but dont want to end up with a bigger problem.
What do you reckon - do it now or wait till the end?
