we've hopefully repaired some leaks from an upstairs bathroom that was making a ground floor ceiling wet. It takes for ever for ceilings to dry out where I come from. Is there a way of assessing quickly whether the repairs have been successful.

Can't you do a visual inspection?
Which pipe was exactly leaking?
If it's a CH pipe equipped by a combi boiler then you can inspect the pressure.
If not and still in doubt then a plumber can pressure test the pipework.

not a pipe, some silicon sealing and tile grouting. water from the shower is/was finding a way to the ground floor ceiling.
are moisture testers accurate enough to show small changes in dampness?

Not a chance. All you can do, is dry it all out as much as possible, then use lots of tissue or toilet paper around the area, as a telltale. The tissue will show up straight away, when it gets wet.
Warmth and good air flow, will help dry things quickly.
good suggestion and thanks. I could also leave tissue once it had dried out to make sure it's not an intermittent fault.
