We are planning a trip starting in London, on to Paris and down to Spain.

Has anyone used the TGV Duplex high-speed train ? It looks like a nice way to travel

Used it on the Paris to Bordeaux route a few years ago iirc, very quick smooth journey, but was on lower floor. Love the way the carriages line up with the markings on the platform

Getting across Paris is the weak link. Obviously it will be quicker and cheaper to fly.

True but we’ve always fancied a train trip.

Manchester to London, London to Paris and down to Spain.

I did Marseille to London a few years ago after the easyJet flight was cancelled and everyone was told to rebook. of course there were no spare flights. I'd advise a taxi from Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon. The metro wont be fun.

I’ve not looked into that part of the journey. So the stop we arrive at in Paris is nowhere near the stop we leave from?

Correction Gare de Lyon.

Yep - London - euro star arrives Gare du Nord (north Paris) and assuming you are going to south Spain, you are looking at Gare de Lyon which is on the south of Paris. 5k taxi about 20 mins

Then TGV to Marseille

You really do want to fly.

It depends which bit of Spain you are heading for. West eg Bilbao, you wouldn't go to Gare de Lyon. But East eg Barcelona, you would.

The metro's fine, about 30 minutes, prefer that to Paris traffic. But I know public transport is something a lot of people avoid at all costs

It’s getting a bit complicated now. A plane sounds appealing once again.
