Thanking moderators

J

JMLanders

I don't know who I'm addressing this to, but this seems to be the place for it.

I notice that there is no button on a moderator post to click and give thanks for their actions. Would it be difficult to add this feature? Given that it is considered to be a "thankless task", it may help redress the balance a little, whether the number of thanks is subsequently shown or not.

What a creep!
Not at all. I have no doubt that some of my posts will be deleted at some stage or another, which will no doubt hack me off. However, there are posts which I alert the moderators about and which may be removed. All in all, one should take the rough with the smooth. When the moderators get it right, then tell them and thank them.

As for when they get it wrong, let's leave that for another day ;)

I think the main problem is that many of the moderators actions are invisible, and many others are traceless after a few days. Thread deletes are invisible after they are gone. When moderators delete posts or split threads, they leave a self-destructing message, which disappears after so long. So how would one go about thanking them? The only real way is to have them sign in as their "real" online alias's. But for some reason admin wants all the moderators to remain anonymous.

Thanks for that information Steve.
I still feel that even if it were temporary (a "thank you count" not working for the reasons you state), it would still be nice for a moderator to get a thanks flag come their way. After all, they are only human too.

A thanks flag for the Mods would also give Admin an idea of how they were performing.
At the end of the day Admin wants to run a successful site but if people leave because they are 'hacked off' by a particular Mod does Admin get to know about it?
Or indeed want to know about it so they can do something about it?

are you serious conny... the mads (whoops ;) ) are like the government... they'll always have support... they can do or not do what they like. This is the world wide web ffs !!!

If it's not conny and martian it's bucketface and hammertime !!!!

(just a light-hearted dig, mr mod  )

This 'Thanks' thing is all well and good but a 'Negative' button should therefore be added to provide a balanced approach. I'd like to see a 'Disagree' and/or 'Negative Rating' button added to all users in order for users to express their disapproval of a user and/or their post.
