Whose laws relieved us from the bondage in which we have been held."

Robert Peart, Slave, Spanishtown, Jamaica 1838

For much of its long campaign ( 1808 ~ 1898 ) against the evil of slavery Britain's navy fought alone and unrecognised against ....the rest of the world.

Want a good read ? Royal Navy verses the Slave Traders ...Bernard Edwards ........Some of the battles read like an action movie. Daring Do ....but true.

Yes, we abolished slavery, aren't we good. Funny that we only did it after American independence, and our navy was instrumental in developing the trade in the first place!

"Prior to the 1807 act that abolished the British slave trade, the Royal Navy was inevitably involved in the trade itself, as a function of protecting the national interest at sea.
The Royal Navy was little different to any large organisation today, with individual officers and men holding differing opinions about slavery. One or two of the more successful naval officers owned plantations in the Americas, and it was also not unknown for officers to have personal slaves on board their ships, although the practice was officially forbidden by the Admiralty."

But yes, after American independence we decided slavery was actually bad and must stop, as it was very unfair for a colony that became an economic rival to have free labour.

Oh I see American independace caused us to become anti slavery chasing the Dutch & Spanish slavers and all the others, isn't it funny that the English stood alone in stopping the trade ....not that fortunes weren't made here on the back of slavery but nontheless we were the first nation to fight against it. Of course it was due to the Damn yanks not wanting to be ruled by us.........oh dear where do you get it from.

but nontheless we were the first nation to fight against it.
That'll be why Denmark banned slavery several years before Britain?

Or that Lithuania banned slavery a full 40 years earlier than that?

Well, yes your right that's the point I was making, we were the first nation to outlaw it and then fight slave ships on the high seas to free slaves ......basically taking on the rest of the world. Jolly good jack tar.

And look what happened to them.
Yes look at them.

High level of inequality.
Poor people cant afford health insurance so cant afford meds
Pharma companies have been allowed to push addictive painkillers on people
Highest prison population in world
High level of racism
Too much power to NRA so allowing 30,000 gun deaths each year.

Is that what you aspire to
