THE BIOS IN THIS SYSTEM IS NOT FULLY ACPI COMPLIANT!

Found it difficult to get my computer to respond yesterday and this message (the title) came up followed by"Please contact your system vendor for an updated BIOS. This was followed by: Technical information: ... Stop : 0X00000A5 (0X00000006); 0X00000000, 0X00000000.

The computer then went through a series of self-repair sessions and without actually saying that the system was sorted out, it was. What on earth was it all about?

what motherboard is it, how old is the machine? Probably just a glitch in the overall scheme, if it's sorted itself don't worry.

Right click on my computer>properties>hardware>device manager; click the Computer tab near the top of the tree and see if it says ACPI compliant something or another.

ACPI is usually enabled in bios, check the bios settings if it happens again.

Ta Deluks, computer is 2 months old but I have no idea what kind of motherboard is installed. However, since the self-repair has obviously worked, I will leave it for the time being but have taken a note of your advice should it happen again.

At 2 months old it certainly should be ACPI compliant. This enables the OS to control the power settings of the machine rather than the BIOS. I suspect that the BIOS may have become corrupt and it restored itself from a backup. You could try to obtain an updated firmware for the BIOS, however judging from you other posts in the Software/Hardware boards I get the impression that computers are not your area of expertise. :D So leave it as it is and hope it doesn't happen again.
To set your mind at ease, it is a hardware fault and will not affect your data, though to quote JohnD
I must back up my data
I must back up my data
I must back up my data
I must back up my data
I must back up my data
I must back up my data
I must back up my data

I must back up my data

Always worth reminding people.
