... are black shoes and an orange T-shirt (that he might or might not have worn) enough proof?.....

What a harrowing program.
You can not start to imagine what they went through mentally for those that jumped. what a predicament to face knowing either way you will die,

I wonder what must have bene going through those peoples minds on the way down..

Awful sight..

I watched the falling man, naturally it filled me with sadness and horror, when we saw a photo of the falling man you knew it was him just from that little figure falling you could tell it was him and then you could start to get into his head, I had to turn it off and go to bed.

I find it amazing that some people are ashamed of their relatives jumping, as they believe it to be a sin to take ones own life. Even thinking about the circumstances those people were in chills me to the marrow. Either do nothing and be burnt alive or jump to certain death. For my money those jumpers took control of their final moments, and in an act of monumental bravery jumped. I cannot even begin to imagine jumping from over 1300 ft. I have heard that when people jump from heights it is not uncommon for them to lose concsiousness due to a total adrenaline overload, I hope that is what happened to those unfortunate souls.

I've always wondered why these tall buildings don't have alternative means of escape such as, it may sound silly, parachutes or huge inflatables at ground level that you can fall on? There was a gadget shown on Tomorrows World some time back which consisted of a tube of some form of material which clung to the person inside allowing them to descend at a rate that was safe and didn't cause friction burns, wonder what happened to that?

yes, I was surprised by that, the falling mans daughters didnt like it yet someone else was grateful that it was a form of closure for him, scanned all the photos searching for his wife and then spotted her hanging out a window and then falling and although it was horrific he preferred it to the thought of her burning, can't even start to imagine. yes brave.

Its the catholic shame thing .....if you commit suicide you go straight to hell ,no grey areas ,the left footers have that covered
lots of shame on the loved ones by the Priests too an some churches wont
bury them
Disgusting really ... :(

The picture That sticks in my mind when this comes up is not of the falling man (poor chap) but of a front page picture on a spanish paper of a young couple holding hands jumping together I felt bad looking at it didn't see it again.
I was just landing in Barcelona when it happend. evrything seemed to stop. Luckily had me cases before it did. What were you people doing when it happend?

I was at work with the radio going....and the news came across like it was a weather bulletin....didnt really get my attention....and then a while later when 1st tower fell....the news came pouring in...people talking over one another....a chill went up my spine...and we ran to the tv set in the next office....we were literally glued....and the days that followed...looking for signs or life......on most channels 24 hrs a day.....horrible sights!

I couldnt think things could/would ever return to normal....how could they?
But, life does go on....and now ....there have been "movies" based on that...and the pentagon being attacked and the plane that crashed...I think it is meant in a honorary way....it just seems inappropriate...not like the proceeds go to the victims families....or at least I dont think they did....not sure.

I was at work at the time when the first tower was hit,

the local radio said that there was a large explosion at the world trade center,
At the time i thought the normal gas/electrical, fire,
Then they said the second tower has been hit by a plane then it was down tools and ears glued to the radio.
I was dieing to go home and watch the news, i was  at the time.

It wasn't suicide.

Imagine this:

You are at the swimming pool and someone said "Duck your head under the water and drown yourself. If you come up I'll shoot you".

Would you come up or drown yourself? You'd have no chioice but to surface.

If someone offered you a million pounds to hold your breath until you lost consciousness - you'd never earn that million quid.

If you were caught in the twin towers and the room was filled with acrid smoke could you stay there and pass out? No you'd have to get out. If that out was through a window - so be it - but it wasn't suicide.

I was in my studio, someone came in and said 'have you heard the news" I thought that they must have got it wrong, put the radio on' sheeks! went home to put the tv on, at the time we had a friend staying he's a professor at oxford university in architectural engineering, he said that the buildings would survive that they would have been designed to with stand it but when we put on the tv the room was silent and faces of disbelief, I will always remember (the very spot) where I was on that day.
