the key in my mortise lock just keeps spinning

hi

i cant open my back door. when i go to use the key in my mortise lock it just spins. i've looked for different advice and have been told by someone to slip a reciprocal saw over the lock and saw through it, and another person tells my that mortice locksw have a small catch within them that just needs flicking and the key will work again?????

i know i cant get to any screws to get the hinges off the wooden door.

can anyone help?

angle grinder to the hinge pins remove the pins and slip the door out

What type of lock is it ? If its a BS rated lock, then it's likely the curtain will have failed, and isn't engaging the bolt to withdraw it. If you can see the bolt, you could try withdrawing it with a screwdriver whilst turning the key to open the lock.

Is your key intact - no broken bits?
