Tonight I drove past the major job I used for my final college assesment project.

The whole site has been levelled, and my wiring is no more. It made me feel old

Because I'm ace, that why.

Your Gloucestershire location was the first clue.

The second was I lived in Tewkesbury for 3 years, recognised the Ashchurch/Northway skyline, the old Safeway's warehouse is in clear view.

Aunty Pat (Davies) worked in the office's at Dowty's for years.

You still in the Tewkesbury area?

Yep, still in Tewkesbury and have been all my life. Both my parents worked at Dowty's. We were at the Seals division which outlasted the Mining part by a few years. They were taken over by a Swedish company a couple of years ago and are now the other side of the M5 in a new factory. I was released 1 year ago as part of a TUPE.
It was a damn good job, very varied and interesting but hey-ho life goes on and at least I have got another job.
The old warehouse as you called it was built to house the Dowty Mining parts. The original site was huge.

Small world eh?

They've moved between Group 4 and Warners garage now haven't they?

Yep, behind the new college. There were two of us left who help them move over 200 machines and get it all up and running again. Then they dropped the TUPE bombshell. After 12 years I took the money and ran. So did the mechanical guy. At it's peak about 30 years ago there were 40 people on maintenance. Even in the time I was there, there were 8 Electricians at one point, 6 fitters and a pipe fitter/welder/plumber !
